El Mirage Lake in CA

So I'm not too far from El Mirage lake in California, and a couple of my friends suggested we head down there at some point in the summer with our cars and try and max them out for fun. I know they do top speed testing on that bed, but how accessible is it to the general public? Is it like a state park where you just pay a fee and enter? Or do you have to reserve it in advance and have a membership or something? Also, is body damage a concern because obviously it's not a road, but correct me if I'm wrong I'm guessing getting your car dirty is the only thing that'll happen out there?

You'd probably have better luck checking out some of the So Cal hot rod websites.

Gotcha, I saw the website but I thought it sounded a little too good to be true, $15 and you just drive in there? Maybe it is that simple... guess I'll know soon enough.

I'd say best to see about an STCA day. Yes, it'll be more money, but...
IF...you plan on any high speed runs, the SCTA has medical care on the premises.
I don't think just an "open to the public day" has medical people available.

Plus, per the SCTA, you'll find out..."exactly"...how fast your car will go.

Mike

P.s. - Well... Looks like it's not a quick or cheap day with the SCTA. But like I said, it is safer and more exact.
Might be more fun and cheaper to head down to the Fontana (Auto Club Raceway) Raceway and join in on their Auto-X days. I think there is (...was...) 4 weekends scheduled for the year. Should check their schedule. BUT...as of this writing, they probably aren't running at all right now.
Was trying to work one weekend in for myself, but I guess that's on hold too.
