Heavily Modded R53 Crashed into a Pond

~ youth is wasted on the young ~

Although this happened in 2017, it was in the news recently due to sentencing being handed down.

:

Boy racer who chased his love rival at 100mph through residential streets before crashing into a garden pond is jailed for nine months

A man who spotted a suspected love rival while the pair where travelling in separate cars and gave chase before crashing in a large garden pond has been jailed.

Bradley Kitching, 24, was driving his Mini Cooper when he saw John Carey, 27, who he believed had been in a relationship with his girlfriend.

Kitching gave chase when Carey drove his Vauxhall Astra VXR away from the scene just before midnight in October 2017.

York Crown Court heard both cars then reached speeds of up to 80-100mph through 30mph residential streets in York before Kitching lost control of his car and ended up in a large garden pond.

Although not exactly my style, I can still respect it for the time, effort, and money involved.

Shame that it met such a sad fate.

Love will make you do some stupid things. I mean, will you just look at the size of that rear wing?

Beyond that, it has often been said based on personal experiences shared among old shipmates: "If you didn't do some stupid s**t while you were young, you've nothing to smile about while you're old."

True that.

My youth was largely misspent and I look back with LOL headshake at some of the stupid shid I did.

If I would have had an R53 in my early 20's I reckon there'd be even more to laugh at haha!

In fact, now in my late 40's, driving my MINI brings out the teenage caveman in me and I all too often give into the temptation as it eggs me on and begs me to flog it,
lately too many stupid speeding tickets for a person of my age LOL

These old MINI's are now at the bottom of their value curve and easily affordable, so they're a great choice for a young gearhead, but sensible restraint sometimes goes out the window with unbridled hooliganism by reckless behavior which can lead to severely bad consequences.

My 1st two cars were British roadster back in the '60's. I was on temporary assignment down to Key West back then and met up with the EVSCC where I learned how to 'drive'. Learning about solo on one of the Keys and a couple of trips up to Sebring were educational in the extreme. I'd learned how to operate a motor vehicle working on a farm at an early age and in high school in a '51 Chevy with 3 on the tree. I see a huge difference between operating and 'driving' that are concepts missed by most folk out there with an ignition key. While driving, my radar is constantly on high alert so as not to become involved with someone else's dash cam entertaining for others as that may be.
