General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
Hi everyone.
I just picked up my MINI Roadster recently and loving it so far.
My question is this.
Before I bought it, the stripes on the hood were replaced at some point. The stripes on the trunk appear to be original. They don't match the hood stripes. The hood stripes are gloss and have a very slight, subtle dimple texture. The trunk stripes are a matte finish and have a smooth surface texture. I am trying to determine where the front stripes came from so I can get a match for the rears. It's driving me nuts that they don't match.
Do the front stripes look like OEM stripes? Or stripes from a different model?
Any insight from the experts would be appreciated. Thanks
Personally, I'd find a local vinyl shop and have everything redone. I understand the want to have the finish of all stripes match (matte or gloss, and texture-wise). Since you don't know how old the strips are or where they were applied/sourced, I'd start fresh so you can get exactly what you want. It may be more expensive, but for a car you love & may own for many years, I think it's worth spending a bit more upfront to get a quality end result.
The appearance and texture of the rears looks identical to mine (except for the colour of course), which I believe are original.
Nevertheless, I agree with whom already replied, that you should start from scratch by replacing both sides, in order not to fall in the same situation (unless you are able to get in touch with the previous owner and get an hint about who did the replacement before, but if time has passed, maybe the overall appearance and status of the front stripes won't be the same as the new ones you apply on the rear even if the same type is used).
