Tree Sap

I’m not going to be able to clean my car for the following 1-2 months as I am going on holiday, my car will be parked under a tree and generally a lot of tree sap goes on the car, anyway I am just wondering if the tree sap is left on my car for 1-2 months will it damage the paint work on the car? Thanks

Probably going to ruin the clear coat. I'd invest in a cover or find alternate parking.

Thanks for your reply. how long would you say it would usually take for tree sap to ruin the clear coat and if it does ruin the clear coat would I notice that the clear coat has been ruined.

thanks ever so much

No idea on timing, just do some internet searching for the horror stories and timelines. I certainly saw some hazing after a few days on my wifes car of uncleaned sap and bird droppings. Cleaned it and polished it successfully but I can't imagine how bad it would have been after a few months. It is an acidic substance.

Get a cover. Pine sap bakes on after a few days and is almost impossible to remove.

Hi, thanks for your help, I put my finger on the bonnet and the sap is currently just like rain water, it’s wet and I can remove it with my finger, the tree is an ash tree I believe also, would I notice if the clear coat was damaged? Thanks

Get a cover or even a cheap tarp. Better than worrying about the paint.

A car cover is way cheaper than a paint job. Get a cover and put a tarp over it too.

That's what I do for a friend's car, that I store for months at a time, his cover, my tarp. A tarp only will rub and wear through the paint when it is windy.

I had some stubborn sap on my chevy that nothing would take off. Then I tried a clay bar and it came right off?! So confused, but just sharing.
