Buffing/detail kits
Buffing/detail kits
We removed the viper strips from my wife's '13 R58. There are outlines (we use Mequiar's ultimate wash & wax) from the stripes. Looking at foam waffle buffing kits, looks like 3M (expensive) or Chemical Guys products. Any suggestions or experiences? Thanks.
If it's adhesive ISOPROPYL alcohol will do the trick, this also strips any wax or sealant which will need to be re-applied. If it's not adhesive, then polishing compound should work. In either application, you will need to polish and seal, (Wax, Sealant).
what color is the car?
if you are seeing a color difference because of paint fade prepare to live with it. Sun has faded the color of the unprotected areas, while the area under the stripes stayed 'original'
some will tell you this can be buffed out but that is a myth. remember that the paint is a two stage system with a color coat (base) UNDER the clear. If the base has sun fade you can buff 'til the cows come home and since all you are buffing is the CLEAR any improvement you see is either imagination or it was discoloration of the clear you were seeing. You'd only buff color by removing the clear and that is NOT what you want to do.
I took sport stripes off our 15 R59 - eclipse gray - over a year ago, clayed and buffed etc etc and a year later can still see some shadow .... eventually the fade will even out ... maybe
