Do you have a delay in power steering assist at startup?

I have to wait ten seconds after startup for my power steering develop assist power. I have a new ZF pump, new fans, correct fluids, bled properly, new alignment.

I occasionally get a delay in assist when I quickly switch between reverse and first gear, it will give me a kick in the steering wheel.

However to me it sounds like you have a problem. Are you sure there is enough fluid in the system? What year and model Mini do you have?
