Shift **** removal

What's up guys, I have a 2011 mini clubman s. Recently bought this short shifter that should be fairly easy to install but I can't seem to get the shift **** off. I've seen the videos on how to remove them but it seems like my shift **** is connected to the gator (the leather boot) so idk how to go about taking it off. Any advice/tips would be appreciated!
Thank you mini world

Do some more searching on NAM, there was a long thread on this a while back. As I recall, you have to gorilla it off..

You need to pull up the little ring around the shifter that the boot is connected too then crank on the **** like a crazy person.

I did as suggested elsewhere by straddling the shifter (facing backwards) with the sunroof open while providing enough upward force to pop the sucker off. Once it is, you'll better understand why the nylon engagement "teeth" won't pop off without effort. No short shifter but I did install Cravenspeed's shift **** and shift well combo which I prefer vs OEM.

It takes some force to pull it off and if you're not careful you can give yourself a fat lip, black eye, break your sunroof, or damage your privates. Seriously, there have been posts of broken sunroofs and fat lips on the forums.

Pull up and watch the sunroof and your eyes.
