Windows dont work right (anything i can do?)

I have re titled a previous post as i was getting no reply

About a year ago I got a bunch of work done at a dealer.
part of that work was a new battery

PRIOR to the new Battery.... BOTH windows would do ANYTHING I wanted.

Part way down..... put it back up

Toll Plaza auto down.....auto up....stop it in the middle... I could go up OR down

SOOOO..... after i got it back, I only had TOLL PLAZA (all down/all up)

OK>>> so window is up.... hit DOWN and stop it ANYWHERE along the travel.... in order to get it UP....I have to go DOWN.... then UP

I should have taken it back.... I KNOW...but I had someplace to be and this was a trivial matter

I have seen and tried the RESET things that i have seen on the web....to no avail

What reset things have you tried? My battery died the other day and I finally replaced it today. Now the windows don't automatically go back up. And the passenger side looks like it has stayed down after the door is shut instead of going back up like normal.

I took my car to the local dealership to have the battery registered, and there was a fault code that never showed up on my OBD. They were able to clear it with out any problem. I think it was the dead battery that caused the error code

once the battery is removed, all the modules will read a low or no voltage and store that in their memory. not necessarily a fault but that's what happens.

you need to reinitialize the windows so the FRM module knows where is the start and where is the end. How you do that is something I have yet to fully find. But from other posts i read, you start with the window fully closed. open and close the door so the window can move down a little and then up. open the window with finger on the switch, count to 15 after it reaches the bottom with finger still pushing down on the switch. after counting to 15, close window with finger on switch all the way up and count to 15 when fully closed. once done, it should be set for auto close and auto open.

i tried that few times and it is a hit or miss. I have a diagnostic tool that enables me to initiate the windows through the module.

good luck

the window reset is done with "ignition on" but "not running". With a manual that's achieved by pushing start without depressing clutch or brake. Not sure if that's actually required, but that what the instructions i have say and it works for me.

Here is a summery of the procedure:

After fixing a battery failure of MINI cooper, the windows need to be reset.

1. Sit in the car, and put the key in position 1, so you have power to the windows.
2. Push and hold down the window switch, and keep it held down for 5-30 seconds after the window is all the way down. This resets the memory
3. Roll window back up, and release switch.

Now you can test open and close door again.

The Full Procedure is in your Owners Manual.

Motor On!
