CARFAX ambiguity

Ok, I know CARFAX is crap but it's all I have to go on at the moment. I am looking at a Paceman a good few hours away so I don't have the luxury of taking it to my trusted shop for them to look over. There are some weird (to me) things in the CARFAX. See below:

9/16/2013 Offered for sale
7/18/2014 Offered for sale

There is nothing between these items. Why would it be posted and then posted again the following year?

2/3/2015 Sold
4/29/2015 A/C expansion/orifice valve replaced
5/14/2015 Offered for sale

Is the A/C orifice valve a known problem? Also, the 1st owner drove it for under 3000mi and then traded it in?

7/17/2015 Sold
1/4/2016 Sold at auction

2nd owner drove it for 3300mi then it sells at auction? With 6300mi?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've always been skeptical about cars that are moved around. Are there any mechanic services in the area that will do an on site inspection. I had one done. It cost about $100 and saved me thousands and a lot of grief. Good Luck!

Well, it looks like it has lived in Texas and has been moved to NC and posted for sale. It has only been registered in Texas. Do you think the things I pointed out are weird?

And NADA clean retail on this car is $25k. It's listed at $19.9k.

They're giving it a 1k bumper to bumper or the remainder of the factory warranty. IDK, nice car though...

Wait for the more experienced owners to reply. I feel like the blind leading the blind here...

Not everything is reported to the central database CarFax is pulling their data from.

So, Tim, the CARFAX does look suspicious to you?

Looks very strange to me. Not sure why it's changed hands so many times in only 6.6k miles. Have you inquired with the dealer to find out what they know about the history of the car (and how they got it?) I wonder if you could call the dealer in Texas that sold the car to find out what happened with the first two "For Sale" events on the carfax. From the mileage at which it was actually sold, seems to me like the car had literally been on the lot for those however many months after the first "for sale". Looking at the vin decoder it is a very base-spec model so I'm not that surprised people would pass on that one for so long.

Sometime dealers or their employees drive cars for a while before selling.
Carfax looks odd but that doesn't mean bad... Maybe...

Yeah, I kinda dig the base spec, though I would prefer to have visual boost. It ticks all of the must-have boxes. I thought about contacting the Texas dealer and picking their brain. I might just have to go drive this on Labor Day.

I was thinking that too. I know somebody who purchased an executive demo car that was driven by the Finance Manager of the selling dealer. Technically it was never owned at the time of purchase but still had something like 5,000 miles on it from the finance manager. But in this case 67 miles seems like too low for somebody to have owned the car personally.

It doesn't hurt to call the texas dealer and see what they know. They might not have anything since it was a while back, but you never know unless you ask them. Seeing the car in person is always a good idea if you can (although I'm a hypocrite, bought my car sight unseen with no PPI)
