New to me Mini

Hello all,

Just picked up my first Mini, a clean pepper white 05 S. any advise on issues I should look out for? I'm going to need to change the oil, what type and weight? Lastly, no spare tire and no run flats so should I get a space saver?

Thanks

welcome to the world of '05 MCS! It's a blast! Use synthetic 5-30 oil. I use Amsoil but the purple stuff is great or Mobile. Check expansion tank for leakage around the seam, check serpentine belt, O2 sensor, fuel filter. check oil level often. Motor on!

Thank you. If no check engine light showing why would I worry about the o2?

Depending on what brakes you have on the front you may have to put the spare on the back and move a rear wheel to the front if you get a flat on the front.

A lot of guys buy a can of slime, a plug kit and an air compressor instead of a spare. Also having road side assistance with a cell phone is a strategy for some.

I recently bought my 05 S convertible and don't have a place for a spare. It's the first vehicle I've ever had without a spare and I'm struggling with what I should do about it. I don't like not having a spare.

Congrats Cockroach! You should have many years and miles of grins ahead of you. Recently picked up an '04 R53 MCS and it's a blast. Mine came with runflats and no spare, but I have AAA so we'll see how that goes!

Does yours have any mods from previous owners? Mine came with cold air intake already, so looking at the Sprint Booster, pulley upgrade, coil overs and Cat Bak. When you're ready to make some mods let us know, we've been doing this for the brand for over 40 years on street and track. Here's a handy performance upgrade application guide:
