2005 R53 Stall and Computer Reset?

Hey guys,

Had a quick question. I was driving my Mini around this weekend and had a strange thing happen.

Turned the car off after a little back roads rally and 80 or so miles on the freeway. When I went to start the car it sputtered and stumbled and didn't start. When I tried again it was completely dead and woudn't crank at all. So I let out the cluch, turned the key completely off, pushed in the clutch and tried again. It cranked a couple times then fired right up. The weird part was once back on the freeway i noticed all my trip data had been reset. My clock, miles and MPG's had all been reset.

Any thoughts? I'm not super worried but I'm not an expert on the Mini and wonder if I should be

Thanks!

Eric

I would check the grounds and battery connections.....maybe check the battery...cause it can crank doesn't mean it's good...a good load test SHOULD be done... simplest explanation is usually the best unless proven otherwise...guessing battery was weak...cranked not quite good enough to start ..stalled....then was too weak to crank...shutting off the key gave it some time to recover....and the stumbling failed start left the motor primed with fuel...next start...vroom...and away you go (anybody remember priming a motor?!)
Odd....yes...but maybe you got lucky. Having the battery tested is basically free....just like checking the tightness of the cables, both the + and the - .

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll check the terminals and the date on the battery. I'm pretty sure its a new battery but a load test wouldn't hurt anything. I could have a defective new battery, stranger things have happened!

Thanks dudes!
