Lease turn-in advice

I have a '16 JCW ordered, and it's now on the Bishu Highway with arrival in Galveston on the 24th.

Currently I have an Owner's Choice lease that is due back at the dealer on the 19th. When I talked to Mini, they said I wouldn't be able to extend the term by a couple weeks, that the Owner's Choice is very inflexible with regards to this...one reason they don't offer this program anymore. On the other hand, my MA said it would be tough to get a loaner from them to cover the gap.

Anyone have any advice with how to work this one out?

Yeah, tell them you don't want the 16 JCW unless they figure it out. Let them give you some cash to cover a rental if need be.

Sounds like a lazy MA. I'd call the sales manager.

So what you're saying is you're giving a premium brand dealership repeat business and they're not even willing to throw you the keys to something off the used car lot for five days?

have you maxed your milage allowance? If not take a long road trip just for spite. Make sure its due for brakes the day you turn it in

I despise leases for just this reason, but they work well for many people so...

That said I agree with the idea that you tell the dealer that they need to work out something until the new one shows up or you'll find a dealership that will work it out. I'd let them know that if the dealership really wants your business they would work it out - they do have a number of options.

Unfortunately, if you've signed papers and not made this part of the deal you may have some issues...

Seems like a pretty small problem for the dealership to overcome. It really is their problem to solve. What happens if you simply fail to turn in your lease on time? What would be the penalty for keeping it two more weeks?

The solution was simple...I 'turned in my car' for the end of the lease, signed paperwork etc and they 'loaned' me a car for the interim. The loaner happened to be my CMS that I've been driving for the last three years and 27k miles. A win in my book.

My car was unloaded on Friday in Galveston and should be ready to pick up by the end of this coming week. JCW pro diffuser kit and tint done before delivery...stay tuned, it's been a long 10 weeks!

Turning in the car with less than allowed mileage works in my favor with regards to tax breaks...on the new one, I'll pay roughly half the taxes I would have if 'buying' a new one off the lot. A 3yr old car with less than 28k miles, fully loaded, helps in this scenario.

Sounds like all worked out well...

A low mileage pristine lease turn in appeals to buyers of late model used cars. At least it was so with me. My original search for private party low mileage 2006 MCS evolved with looking at MINI dealership inventory. I had driven ~ 100 miles 1-way to look at a 2013 MCS JCW which had been in non-MINI dealer inventory for nearly 6 months. I drove it but wasn't thrilled about "unknown" condition issues as well as their asking price plus no remaining warranty so I passed.

I had searched area MINI dealer inventory in advance online but didn't find one with Getrag manual which I preferred. Nonetheless, I stopped by and the (sig) MCS was there with sign "not for sale - see sales manager". Turns out it had been turned in the day before with 17.7K miles, thus hadn't been "processed" nor listed in inventory. Well, I test drove and bought it. It was pristine, met CPO eligibilty plus had new tires. My negotiated deal worked for me and the MINI dealer...
