I'm a bit surprised there are so many people here saying they've not had brakes done. All three of the MINIs I've owned have had brakes done under scheduled maintenance. One I know for sure had rotors in addition to the pads replaced, the current one may have but I don't recall for sure.

I wouldn't call the type of driving I do unusual... Lots of freeway, some in traffic some not. Suburban running around. The MINIs actually seem to go through pads much faster than any other car or truck I've owned (and generate more dust).
conspiracy theory here: they specify 15k oil changes but since most people don't check oil levels they sometimes destroy engines/turbos by letting it go low and then the dealer can quote you a new engine. end conspiracy theory.
I change mine every 7.5k.

my car has low mileage so i'll see what my front pads look like at 36k. now at almost 25k there is a ton of material left. i don't need to brake as much as previous cars since the car is light and engine braking slows down a lot by just lifting off gas pedal (no downshifting, auto tranny).

Odd that some of you never had brakes done. Must have low mileage. I had the front and rear done (usually separately) at least twice in the 36,000 maintenance period. Of course I live in NJ so frequent stopping is par for the course driving around here.
