I just got a 2012 MC and was told there is no break-in anymore?
Salesman said no, owners manual said yes (1400 miles, under 4k RPMs, no heavy acceleration), and the NAM members were mixed (break-in or drive it like you stole it). I played it safe and followed the manual's advice.

I'd listen to the manual with respect to how to break it in, but I'd even go a step further and change the oil after 1400 miles, and then *again* at 5000 miles, just to make sure the little metal gritties that get in the oil as you break in an engine are flushed out. The engine oil and filter are cheap by comparison, and by 5000 miles, the engine's pretty well broken-in....

C ya,

I'd hate to get the thread off-topic, but that's exactly what I'm doing. I can't imagine letting that oil sit for 15k miles.
6 months till I'm 21. 3 weeks till I pick up my new MINI for this long wait! This will be the third MINI. Had an R50, traded it in on a R56S seven months after getting it because I needed that power! Lol. Now I'm trading my 2007 in on my newly built 2012, just waiting for it to get here!
I just turned 68 last week and my 2011 MINI Cooper S Convertible was purchased as a retirement gift for me in October 2010. My wife and I have always purchased practical vehicles and we wanted something fun. And, we got it!!
52 a couple months ago... but still feel like I'm easily in my 20's or early 30's.... and when I hit the Sports button I can see my early 20's coming right back.

Life is short. Being diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in 2010 was an wake up call for us. After minivans and family cars we decided we wanted fun cars too. My husband has a 2011 412 hp Mustang GT in retro Grabber Blue color. I picked up my Mini 6 weeks ago.
I turned 51 this year and the side benefit to the "fun cars" we can always find them in the parking lot at our advanced age.
