FTC rules against BMW/Mini for voiding warranties

I hope this isn't old news... just saw this article today.

Basically, the FTC has ruled against Mini telling people that they have to use Mini parts and/or Mini dealerships for maintenance or their warranty will be voided. This may help with some of the "uncooperative" dealers that I have heard about.

It has been a long time since Magnusen-Moss was passed. It amazes me how many people are ignorant of this law. I have a friend who was an ASE Jag mechanic and he is convinced that you have to use a dealer for repairs and maintenance or a warranty is void.
