Car: 2009 Mini JCW Hardtop

The problem: For the past couple of days, when I go to park my car and hit the ignition switch to turn off the engine, the power totally and completely goes out. No radio, power locks, or anything. I'm unable to turn anything on. I thought that this might be the battery. So, after I went to get some jumper cables, I opened the hood and the power went back on in the car - everything was functional! Jumper cables were NOT used. All that was done, was the hood was popped. This happened a couple of more times - and opening the hood appeared to mediate the issue. Quite strange.

Question: What could be causing this? A Fuse? ECU? I don't want to keep opening my hood to start my car

Weird! The hood popping could just be a really random coincidence, but I'm thinking about the CAS (Car Access System). You can try to do a battery reset and see if that fixes the issue. Are there any faults in the system? Any CAN faults and especially pay attention for faults in the CAS and in the DME for IBS. May also want to take a look at the big fuses in the front power distribution box to see if any are bad.
