"stealth" radar mount
"stealth" radar mount
Hello spirited drivers - I have discovered a new and nifty way to mount a radar detector. The idea came to me when my first mounting idea didn't work...but the second idea was a good one
I'll let you be the judge.
I noticed that the side of the rear view mirror mount is flat. The radar detector I use, a Whistler Cr90, comes with a metal mount with suction cups to attach to the window. By removing the cups and bending the mount to a 90 degree angle, one side can be attached to the side of the rear view mirror mount with double stick tape (and a twist tie if you want more security) and the remaining horizontal piece can attach to the bottom of the radar detector with some double stick tape. See the pictures below. Also, btw, my rear view mirror is not stock, but I don't think the radar fitment will make any difference for the stock mirror...
This works perfect for me - you can't see the mount from inside or outside the car, the radar detector is discrete, and there is still room to hit the "silent" button. Even better, my sunshade still fits! So there you go - no additional parts necessary besides some double stick tape, nothing stuck to your window, and all ready to motor

That's a good spot and a nice write up. Mine is in a similar location more for performance than stealth as one of the few pluses CA has over many other states is that we do not catch grief for radar detectors. Now if they know about my jammer in the grill they might have a different attitude
