OBDII scanner worth it?

Hey, I was just wondering, Ive been kinda looking into OBDII scanners after I started working on the mini both as just a kinda fun thing with gauges to play with as well as a tool to read codes and other things. I was wondering what is the best one for use with a iPhone 6 and what is the best app to use with it to get the least hassle and the best use out of the tool. Thanks

Folks have said very good things about Torque. It's like $5 I think but if I'm not mistaken, you'll need some sort of connector. I think if you got a Bluetooth adapter for your OBDII and paired it to your phone, you could do away with cables.

I use a ScanGauge II that connects via wire.

You can buy a scanner from Amazon for 5-10 bucks. Worth every penny

One of the inexpensive bluetooth OBDII adapters and Torque for your smart phone.

The Torque app is unavailable for iOS.
Not all Bluetooth dongles will work with iOS.

I use the more expensive (but guaranteed ios compatible) GoPoint Bluetooth dongle (and have been using it since my iphone4). The dash command app is also expensive, but I use it on my iPhone 4, 6 and iPad 2. I also now have a pioneer 7" head unit that has the capability to use dash command from the hard wired iPhone 4 (still have yet to install it). With the gauges displayed, it should really be awesome.

This is true. Apple is very picky about what they allow and OBDII info over Bluetooth is not a thing they like.

However, there is a wifi dongle that will work with apple. It is more costly and they apps are also more costly.

In my opinion it is cheaper to get a used android phone or tablet on eBay and then a BT dongle and Torque App. Overall cost would be pretty cheap.

For realtime monitoring I prefer to use a ScanGauge II in my MINI. It plugs into the OBDII port and can provide view of 4 "gauges" at one time and you can select the ones you like. Can buy online or auto zone. It also reads and clears codes.
