just got my first mini

2013 mini cooper s countryman.

Quick question: it idels a bit loud with a fast ticking.they say it is normal and I have heard on Other vehicles as well.

It goes away as I rev engine. Normal?

I love the car!

Also how does three year warranty work. If I take car in should I expect to pat nothing until the three year mark is up?

It's not unusual, but I would ask a tech about it. These engines have all sorts of fun ticks, shakes, and shudders at idle... depending on the weather it's like driving a diesel.

It depends on the warranty. You might still have some time left on your factory warranty; have a service writer run the VIN to double-check. MINIs are lovably unreliable, but the factory warranty is gold. If you're talking about an extended warranty, it's nothing but an insurance contract. It will depend on the provider, the terms of coverage, and expect to get some hassle about anything that might be construed as your fault or a normal wear item.

My 2012 came with a 4 year, 50k mile factory warranty. I know as some point they changed to 3 year 36k mile, but as another member posted, you should check with a mini dealer on where you're at..

I have a 2014 countryman and when I first start it idles like that. If I start it with the hood up I swear I can hear every valve! Once it idles a few seconds (or I tap the throttle if I'm impatient to get going) the idle speed drops and it quiets down. I'm thinking what you describe is normal behavior
