Is this possible?
Is this possible?
Anyone know if this is possible with the K&N Typhoon Kit? DDM looks to simply reconnect the OEM hose which goes into the MAF. Wondering if such can also be done with the K&N setup. I don't see the purpose of the extended K&N "tube" if it's not necessary.
Besides, that would mean 1 clamp, vs. 3 clamps. See image.

Any suggestions?

here is a picture I pulled from google.

where the MAF wire is connected to is the factory MAF housing.

This is what the factory intake looks like.
In order for you to use the OEM rubber boot (which on my R56 cracked where it connects to the turbo at 80k miles) you would need to get a 3" (diameter) 90 degree rubber intake tube.
You would then need a male to male intake tube to connect from your OEM Boot (the big one that connects to the turbo) to your new 90 degree elbow, which will connect to your OEM MAF housing, which bolts directly to the KN typhoon box.
OR order the long tube metal tube and rubber boot from KN directly (via calling them), purchase your own hose clamps, connect everything up, buy a 90 degree intake elbow from anywhere and slap on any 3" conical or cylindrical air filter you want. You won't have the fancy box around the filter, and it would all cost you less than 100. Or there abouts.
Not sure if you bought the whole kit or not, but you won't be disappointed. Last air filter you'll ever buy and you'll be happy about it every time your foot get's anywhere near the floor.

Hello fellow MINIacts!!
The K&N Typhoon CAI kit was installed, and installation was a breeze. The unit and all parts that came with it are VERY well constructed. Everything just fits into place spot on.
I had my wife read the instructions while I followed the steps. 45-60 I was done.
Then, my wife and I took Zippy for a test drive.
Here are my observations.
1. A 100% definite improvement in throttle response and much smoother shifting.
2. A slightly deeper sportier sound. For the life of me it almost sounds like the exhaust is different. I know that can't be because I did not do any exhaust work. Regardless, she sounds sportier and solid.
We drove with the windows down, radio off and my wife loves how she sounds now. I had a fear it would be loud, like those Toyota Tercel Fast and Furious wanna-be cars. Not the case at all.
Zippy sounds beefier, deeper and not loud at all.
However, when I push her demanding more throttle, she responds without a moments hesitation and sounds louder than before, but not in an unpleasant or over exaggerated way. Nice, low, smooth and solid sound.
3. Extra HP? If so, very slightly. I'm pretty sure it's not butt dyno, but since that's not what I was looking for, it's a welcomed plus.
4. No CEL at all. Zippy loves her ability to breathe now that she had her tonsils removed.
If I could sum this up, it would be. Zippy is breathing far better now and it shows in more ways than one. TWO thumbs up on the purchase. Absolutely worth it!!!
Here's a pic of her new look.
Cheers!

WrenchMonkey. How could my exhaust sound different when I haven't touched anything on it? Odd. 😔
