My loaner was STOLEN!!
my thoughts too...or found wrapped around a tree / down an embankment somewhere.
Sorry guys but that makes no sense. I filed with my, and their insurance company for a stolen car. Unless they find the person(s) who stole it, there's really no difference if I had totaled it vs it gone missing. The cops said the night it was stolen, there were other cars in the neighborhood who'd their cars vandalized as well. I hadn't been on NAM in ages and I definitely have a bad taste in my mouth about you guys now.
In talking to my buddy who is a retired insurance agent, I discovered this loss will fall under your liability coverage, and not your comprehensive as I stated early. I hope you have more than minimum liability. In the state of Texas, only 25K is required and that would not buy a new MINI...

I don't believe that Liability coverage has anything to do with theft loss when talking about auto insurance. Simple, call your insurance agent or company.

"Property damage liability insurance, which provides coverage if you're found at fault in an accident that damages someone else's property. This includes paying for repair or replacement of the other person's vehicle and repair or replacement of homes, other buildings or stationary objects."
That seems like a bit of a grey area in this case. And I (surprisingly) haven't heard from my agent since Sunday. I don't really know if I will for a bit since I know MINI's is in contact with them already.
Thank you for the helpful reply though. I've never dealt with anything this side of the insurance claims before.
Leaving keys in the car isn't that uncommon, especially with the smart keys that don't need to be inserted. We had a bunch of 'luxury' car thefts near me last summer. Turned out that people were leaving their smart keys in their cars with the doors unlocked and thieves were just getting in and driving away. I worked for a valet company in high school right when smart keys were becoming mainstream and I can't tell you the number of people who would pull up and have absolutely no idea where the key was. We'd find it buried in the center console or under a seat and the people would tell us 'oh wow I haven't seen that in months, I never need it.'

Link finally popped up. What a relief! Make sure you show this to the dealership. They SHOULD go after the suspect in custody for the damages. Like he will have the means to pay for anything

Imagine if you had come home from the shop with yours!
I still have my JCW!
Oh no! Sorry for the confusion. It turned out a lot of people who I spoke to about what was going on over the course of the weekend weren't familiar with the term "loaner" and how it differs from a rental in this situation. My insurance company (as of the time of the claim) treats it as my vehicle and so it was just easier to not explain it.

If it is like a house, technically the bank owns it until you pay it off. But you have all rights as to what you do to it. These law things always makes my head spin
I'm afraid to see yours because you have all the goodies and make me sad about my stereo and cloth seats
I actually haven't been to any! While I was having all those issues, I didn't want to risk my car at any of the "spirtious" drives! On top of working Sunday's, when a lot of the meets were it just didn't work. But it looks like Saturday's are coming up so I'll be showing up!

You should come to the Christmas Party at MoM!!! And I think there's the ice castle trip planned next month?
Anyway, sorry to hijack your thread. Still glad they found the Countryman :P
Looks like the car got wrecked pretty good from the police chase....having jumped a dich, run through a hedge, and nearly plowed into a house...
But since it is "back", at least totaling up the $$ can begin and the insurance companies can start to figure out which side will pay for both the car, AND the front yard, the tow, the storage, etc....yeah...it gets $$$ pretty fast. The fact the guy had " multiple" warrents for his arrest would make be buy extra door locks, a deadbolt, and get a garage or move!! Ouch...to think a guy like that is walking around looking INTO YOUR CAR TO SEE IF YOU FORGOT ANYTHING and its unlocked so they can take your stuff(or the entire car) is kinda Scarry....
Good to see they found it and caught one person...

The worst part, aside from my laptop, I had recent exam files in there. Name, address, SSN...
Usually you can just buy an extra "new" garage door opener, and then push reset on the programing button...voiding all the units, then adding the new, and the remaking old units back to it by the "learn" procedure....thus deactivating the old opener...
As for the laptop...ouch...hopefully you had a password, and the idiots were not rocket science type and just reformatted it or sold if for $50 to somebody who will....
A service like carbonite© or other automatic cloud backup with a gift or password is really important....using a feature like an encrypted hard drive(tied to your sigh in) is the best, but not all versions of operating systems offer it.

Is the 2nd dirtbag still on the loose?
Police need to get the US Postal Inspector involved. "Sifting through mailboxes" is a federal offense, and if they find one piece of mail in that car that's not theirs, it's mail theft. Dangle that federal beef in front of creep #1 and see how quickly he gives up the name of creep #2. A 3 year federal sentence means youndo 3 years, none of that "time off for good behavior" BS he'll get for possesion of a stolen vehicle and felony eluding.
Glad the car is back in the owner's hands.
