wire embedded in side window

what is the wire for that is embedded in the left side window on my wife's 2011 Clubman. I know on our Ford Expedition it is the radio antenna but the Mini has the roof antenna. Just curious.

Thanks

Tom

It is the FM antenna. The roof antenna is for AM.

I do believe that it also is a second antenna.
I have the '14 fJCW R55
I saw it posted here on NAM before.
Something about am radio if I remember right.
I haven't taken the time to look it up or read more, but it's there!

Hope that helps confirm what you thought.
Maybe search it on here, but again if I remember right, it was under the second gen R55 threads.

The roof antenna is both AM and FM.

The antenna in the window is an additional FM "diversity antenna" to compensate for multipath from tall buildings and terrain. A circuit (item #6 here) selects the better signal from the two antennas. Many cars have this feature.

Thanks for all your replies. I figured it was some kind of antenna. The satellite antenna must be the big blob under the Am/FM stalk on the roof. It is a neat little car it belongs to my wife and I am in charge of leaning all about it so I can tell her. Window Tint and wheels/tires are coming in the next few week. Still researching tires/wheels looks like it will be 17 x7's with 215/45-17 tires. Being a women she will have last say on the looks so it could end up being 15 or 16 inch wheels. I do know the wheels will be black with machined face and lip.

I wish they'd do away with the roof antennas. They could easily put them in the rear glass like audi.
