04 R50 Base Cooper cooling issues.

Hello all,

I need a few more brains to potentially help me track down a strange issue.

It all started with a strange issue where the car would show it was overheating at idle. Once you'd begin accelerating, the temp gauge would drop quickly and appear normal.

I replaced the water pump, thermostat, and main accessory belt and still get hot readings. Coolant levels are good, no leaks, good pressure in the coolant lines.

I played with the idea of replacing the coolant temp sensor as it may have failed, however I can take a reading with my computer and the temp sensor is working. If the reading is right? I don't know.

Has any one else had an issue like this? I don't believe the car is actually running hot, just thinks it running hot.

The radiator fan kicks on high and runs forever to try and cool it down.

Again, this is an 04 Base Cooper R50.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If You Radiator Fan Take To Long N' Hi Speed.
Is Because The Low Speed Is Maybe Don't Work.

The Low Speed Turn On A 205 °F
The Hi Speed Turn On A 212 °F

Turn The A/C.
If The Fan Kicks On N' Off.
That's Me You Low Speed Don't Work
N' The Hi Speed Is The Only One Working.

I'm interested in this as well. I also have an 04' base(101,000mi) that just started doing this. Sitting at idle the Hi-Fan wants to kick on fairly quickly. If I sit too long the temp shoots up to the red zone. If I start driving (even at low speeds, 20-30mph) the temp quickly drops to normal and the fans kick off. I can't believe that if I was actually overheating that driving 1/2 a block at 30mph would be enough to cool things down to normal. Unless it's a situation where the thermostat isn't opening until the motor is under load or something like that. Then I guess the dry state ----> flowing coolant would cause the quick shift in temperature?

Sounds like the low speed fan. Check the resistor up by the main fan housing.
