"Break-in" Oil Change

What's your take? I thought when I bought my 2014 R60 in March that the MA recommended taking it in at round 2,000 for a break-in oil change. Since the closest Mini dealer is 60 miles away I checked with the local BMW dealer and was told that they will do work on Minis.
So I stop in this morning for my break-in oil change and am told 1) they won't do warranty work on Minis, and 2) it isn't scheduled for an oil change until 9,200 miles.
That's fine if it really is the case. Just aggravated that I wasted my time.\
What do y'all think?

I wish my MINI dealer was 60 miles away.

i did my oil change at 500mi on my own. I believe MINI's free maintenance for oil change doesn't allow the first oil change until 1 year after purchase

I did mine at 1K for my piece of mind, forget what MINI recommends on oil changes. And only MINI can do warranty work and MINI won't ever change for free unless the service indicator is yellow saying so.

Was the BMW dealership not willing to do the work even though you were paying for it?

I don't know that MINI uses "Break in oil". MINI will change your new car's oil for free when indicated by the car or one year after the date of purchase, whichever come first.

I got my first free oil change at about 5000 miles, just after my car's first anniversary. It used a quart of oil in that time, it was topped up with MINI brand oil, as recommended.

I haven't had to add any oil between oil changes since that first year.

I changed my oil at 5000 miles and plan on changing every 5000. The dealer will do the annual change and I will change myself in between.

You could do it yourself and get familiar with your new MINI . Here is the oil service kit .
MINI Oil Service Kit Gen 2 - Priced As Kit 11427622446 KT

or ask the MINI dealership to do it ( BMW will not do it ) , don't know if they would cover an early oil change since it gets changed by them under the scheduled interval service part of the maintenance package.

Thanks

Call the BMW dealership and ask if they will do an oil change provided you want to pay for it yourself. I'll bet they will. I will change my oil every 5,000 miles. Whether MINI or I pay for it isn't the issue.

What do y'all think?
BMW/MINI stopped recommending an oil change at the end of the break-in period after they introduced pre-paid service plans. Oil change intervals also spiked from 5K miles to 15K. What a coincidence.

With one exception - BMW still recommends and pays for oil changes on M cars after 1200 miles.

I pay for my oil changes on all my cars at the end of the break-in period.
On manual cars, I also change the tranny and diff oils.

You can DIY the oil change(s), or any competent independent shop can do an oil change on any car. The oil change procedure are all very similar.

The dealership I purchased my mini (2013 Clubman S) from, Mini of Tempe Arizona. Asked me to bring in my car after 30 days for a quick check and they changed the oil (no charge).

The MINI dealer had no problem with changing my oil at 1,200 mi. Just as long as it's not on their dime.

I changed mine at 1200 mi, again at 6k mile, will get a free yearly change in November. I change my oil and filter at least 2 times a year. Changing oil that often, especially with synthetic oil, may be overkill but it is relatively cheap insurance for the long term health of your engine.

MINI recommended oil change every 15k miles for my 2009, every 10k for my 2013.

I still think that's too long.
