Complete File On Your Car?

Hmm, perhaps I'm just being compulsive. But I'm keeping a complete file on my '13 MCS Clubman, now just a year old. The file starts with ordering documentation and includes build and shipping progress, delivery info, Monroney sticker, etc., and also includes invoice from its first, and so far only, service. No gas receipts, though - that's a bridge too far.

I'm thinking this can't hurt the car's eventual resale - or, if I decide to keep it at lease-end, it can't hurt to know what was done, when.

Is anyone else doing this? Or am I the only one to achieve this advanced level of craziness?

I keep everything on all of our cars in files in the file cabinet. Anything that gets done the papers get stuck in. Not a big deal to do, never hurts to have it.

I've been doing it for years. Everything that came with the car, service receipts, new tires, etc. I also have an excel spreadsheet with mileage, what was done, and the cost so I can see how things are looking in the long run. I remember when I sold my R53, I had "Maintenance logs available upon request" or whatever on my ad, and I think that helped get more interest.

did anyone request to see it? did the buyer take it with them? I save all my receipts and records too, and I have everyone of those folders in my file drawer going back to cars I bought in the 80's

No one has ever asked to see them or said they'd pay more for the car if I had them. I was damn sure if I left them in the car, they would simply go to the 'round file'

I got a pile of stuff when I bought my 79, including a spiral notebook of hand written notes from one owner .... didn't impact what I was going to pay a bit, but fun to have now and DID help me measure what I'd bought.

Of course you are not the only one. When I picked up Artoo in September 2002 they gave me a t-shirt with the delivery number and a log book. I have been keeping detailed logs now for 11+ years and 140,000 miles.

There is a lot of craziness around here.
