Window tint kit questions

I have a scratch in the tint on my passenger side window. I also have an issue with my defroster on one of my barn doors and the dealer won't look at it unless the tint is removed.

So it looks like I am going to need to redo my tint. Has anyone used the precut tint kits for the Clubman? If so, how well do they fit? Will I need to pull any panels to get the tint below the seals like on the doors?

Thanks.

I just had my tint guy remove the tint on a rear door and make a repair to one section that did not work, looked like tint guy caused a line to get damaged, he repaired and retinted for free.

The dealer is probably asking for the tint to be removed so he is not responsible in case it gets damaged when the car is being worked on. It may be worth asking if you could give him a waiver so he is not responsible if anything happens to the tint. You may luck out and find the tint is OK after the work is done. Worst case is that the tint will need redoing but you would have lost nothing.

well isnt the defrster grid on the inside of the window?.....so it would be covered by the tint......if theres a break in the defroster grid, the tint will have to be removed to repair it.

No, you do not need to remove panels to get the tint slightly below the doors. After you've completely removed all the old glue residue and heat-shrank the tint, soak the entire window in a water/baby shampoo solution. Roll the window down a bit. Peel back the top half of the tint sheet for the window, and line it up a couple of millimeters below the edge of the window. Spray water solution onto the tint. Smooth tint all around those edges while maintaining that distance between edge of tint and edge of window. Roll the window completely up. Spray the bottom half of the actual window again. Peel back the rest of the tint sheet, and carefully maneuver it into the space between the glass and seal. Spray water solution onto the tint. Smooth the tint out from top to bottom while guiding that bottom half ever-so-gently into the space between the seal and window. Voila. Better off paying the $50-60 bucks to have a professional do it in my opinion .. unless you already know you're great at tint.

The issue with removing tint though .. is that depending on how long your old tint has been there, it can actually damage (and on some vehicles completely remove) the defroster grid - making is unrepairable and all the time you spent wasted.
