No disrespect here either, I get a lot positive feedback at gas stations etc, went to a Cars and Coffee on Sunday with a bunch of 200k + cars and still got positive looks and comments on our cars. By the way, I don't see more girls than men in MINIs, I would say that the amount is equal.

Where do you live? Country? City? Where I'm at you rarely ever see a mini. The closest dealer is 3 hours away. Only person I know with one is a local cop although I've seem 3 total around here.

5'6" 155lbs here. I've never had anyone call it a girls car. Now, my first MINI was electric blue and I did get some slack because of that but only initially, and only by my closest friends. I'm on my second MINI now and nothing but respect. People love my car. Most want it for them selves. And that includes the Mustang group around here.

It could also be who you surround yourself with too. My friends have in no particular order, Miata, SVT Focus, SRT-4 (Neon ), Fiesta (25 years old), another Miata, S2000, EVO IX SE, WRX STI, Fiesta ST, EVO X, '12 Mustang GT, '08 Z06, another SVT Focus, MR2, 240SX, and a couple Jeep Wranglers. So for the most part very "Car" oriented people, we all respect what each other have. We tend to swap vehicles at times to play around on drives. Its all fun.

Funny how it seems to vary by location. There are a good amount of MINI's near me, probably due to the fact that there are 11 dealers in SoCal. Anyway I get a lot of complements on my MINI, and some negative about the gold rims. However I really like how both sexes enjoy the car. Plenty of guys around here like it, and respect it. Lots of girls really like them too, which is a plus to me as I'm a single 25 year old male My friends laughed at first when I said I was buying one only because I have driven my lifted Ford for the last 5 years...

Unless people are cutting you off or damaging your MINI, why do you care about a lack of respect?

If they are cutting you off, wait until the road starts bending and then walk around them. Or just let them go and smile, secure in the knowledge that you drive a MINI, and they drive some lesser hunk of automotive machinery.

Or maybe get a bumper sticker that says, "I drive a MINI. What are YOU compensating for?"

I always get annoyed on the roads. People follow me close and always cut me off. I just zip past them so I don't get hit by any of them. I don't trust anyone on the roads. There are so many jerks who think they own all three lanes in a four lane road.

I'm also 6' 182lbs and people give me flack for driving a small car. I never get the "gay for driving a MINI". But I do however get the, "why are you driving a clown car?" Or "I'll beat that thing with my car!". I just laugh until I walk out of my car with the gorgeous lady:-).

When I had my Jeep, I used to get the "is this your boyfriend's?" question all the time. It irritated me until my boyfriend pointed out it was a safe way of finding out if I was attached. I think he was right 'cause once I had an engagement ring, I never heard the question again. I can see a girl using this tactic to find out dating status.

Think you need to carry yourself better....
Sounds like folks are thinking you are an easy target....
Or just joshing ya!!
Either way....
Quit giving a crap....or get a better comeback!!

Funny how these threads usually come up right after folks realize they need to or have spent $$$ on their car....
All of a sudden they question everything...
If you don't like your car....we are not gonna make you keep it!! Sell it and get a RAM pickup that the salt in upstate NY will eat in 4 years....oops...
Somebody will say "what are you compensating for" or call you a "tree killer"....
Guess you could get a Honda accord....oops...somebody will ask if you " borrowed the car from mom and daddy "....
Then you could get a ....er....bike....
Or better yet...get what YOU LIKE... NOT GIVE A CRAP...
AND STOP HANGING OUT WITH LOOSERS!! hate to say it...if you friends make fun of you in anything but a " joshing" you kinda of way....they have low self esteem and are trying to make themselves feel better at your expense.....so tell them to go cash their welfare check and get lost...lol...better yet...tell them to get a job...and BUY car.....

When I was up in New York doing building inspections for FEMA after hurricane sandy I had a number of people ask "did you really drive that all the way from Florida". You just can't fix stupid.

Ever considered you misperceived the intent of the question, maybe she was really hitting on you and trying to find out if you had a girlfriend.

I drove an Alfa Romeo Spider because it was fun to drive. I replaced the Alfa with a MINI which is REALLY FUN to drive. Never have given much thought to what others think of the car I drive. I guess I'm too busy enjoying the ride!

Word for word the crap I catch everyday, and I could care less!

Oh, and I'm 6'2"/270, so I catch plenty of "do you fit" comments too. Just consider each encounter an opportunity to educate.

Was at a local ice cream stand last summer and lady was walking around my MCSA and she said " Nice car", then left in a 2013 Corvette. That made me feel good.

lol i think i know waht you mean - it's not exactly like driving the evo, no one really dares to tailgate me when i'm in that car - as i do little things to the car to make it stand out, i am getting a liiittle more "respect". i.e., the big tire rack windshield banner is a tip off that it isn't just the average ho hum mini

I never have any problems because I am hooning most of the time in the MINI. That is why I had to get a Forester. The MINI is going to land me in jail at the rate I am going.

Amen. 57 YO. Retired. R55 >> fits our needs and my personality. I r-e-a-l-l-y don't care what anyone else thinks. Only had it 2 months and made a few mods / added graphics. It's me.

I. Think. It's. Kool. but honestly haven't come to any conclusions on what impression it may have on anyone else. More than a few have eye-balled it but haven't noted any signs of disapproval, then again my radar isn't set on high alert either. lOl.
