Autometer Mechanical water temp gauge install

Im try to install a mechanical water temp gauge and trying to figure out where to attach the water temp sender which has 1/2 npt and approximately 1 1/4 inch sensor..? Should i get one of those aluminum radiator hose coupler that has a fitting for the sensor or are there any other place to connect it?

Any advantages of having a mechanical as suppose to electrical water temp gauge?

Anyone know the diameter of the r53 radiator hose? I was hoping to get a coupler where i can plug the water temp sensor....

Where would be the best place for the sensor to get accurate readings?

My opinion, but no specific answers.

In theory a mechanical gauge should be more accurate. However, the question remains, how accurate do you need it to be? Does it matter if you read 220 or 219? A mechanical gauge is another area of potential leaks. Not only the sending unit, but the entire tubing. And then if the tubing is long enough how accurately is it displaying the true temperature since it can pick up heat or lose heat for the run of the tube.

Where in the real world would there be an advantage, short of the satisfaction of having installed it yourself?

a few degrees is not really a big deal.. I just want to make sure I could get the closest reading of my water temp... the water temp sensor looks like this below but for a water temp...

Couldn't tell you on the hose size. My car is under 6-8" of white stuff and the forecast is not very good for the next week or so! Maybe someone else can chime in.

water temp

Best bet would be to buy a scan Gague that plugs into the OBD port and can give you many read outs and and a code reader and can also clear codes.

I agree with Martin on the OBD Port reader and with patchelect about basically creating a weak link in your coolant system.

The OBD port reader is worth taking a look at, you can buy scan gauge or a Bluetooth wireless for your cell phone or Garmin GPS.
