I drive a r50 base 2004 5speed. On my shifter itself when in gear I can move the shifter itself a good two inches to the left or right. The car does not come out of gear but it feels sloppy. Is there a bushing or a kit I can buy to fix this. Also I'm interested in a shorter shifter,shorter throw as well,many suggestions.

 

Mine is like this as well, it always has been. I'd be interested to hear an answer to this too.

 

I guess I'm picky, but I'm sure it can be fixed the way we want them

 

As I remember there is a piece of white plastic under the shift lever

itself that can become worn or broken. Maybe someone else can ex-

plain it better.

Someone mentioned finding a fix for this a few weeks ago. Can't find the thread now, but the part is the same as in the Ford Focus, since they also used the Getrag transmission. It's some little plastic bushing thing, iirc the OP paid $14 at a Ford dealer.
