A Few Questions from a Newb...

Looking at picking up a used Mini. I'm looking at a 2010 Cooper S with 50K miles. How do these cars hold up? I see a lot of them with 100k miles on them... should I be worried that this one already has 50k?

Any issues I should be aware of with this year/model? I've done some research on the forum but was wondering what else you guys could tell me.

Thanks guys.

Tom

50K miles for a 3-4 year old mini is about right. I have a '12 S, no problems so far. If you've been researching on this forum, you find it can be hit or miss. Maintenance/repair on a mini is much higher than say a honda or toyota, more in line with a BMW or other european vehicle.

Comes down to how it was driven....
Driven like it was stolen....it is a money pit...
Driven as a car usually is, and it is a fun car....(you can push it a bit, but driven as a race car, by a "boy racer" or person who says "I have a warrenty" will make you spend $$$$). Best suited for a person willing to check their oil/coolant on a regular basis....
This car is no Honda/Toyota.....You WILL add oil, many/most mini's do use a bit...forget to look...boom!!! New motor time....
Just keep in mind, euro parts, euro prices....
So repairs ARE more $$$, just like any Audi,BMW, etc....

VW v BMW

Back in the day I owned a sweet little VW Jetta GLi - all the toys, 16v and Porsche red. This VW was stolen twice and attempted break-ins were almost a weekly occurence in the Boston area. Curious thing about this VW, OE replacement parts were more expensive than the more expensive BMW 5 Series. Finally sold it and purchased a Toyota Land Cruiser. Whew, what a relief. Aside from oil consumption issues, parts vary from top dollar OE to reman OE to decent after-market to made in China crap. Mind your budget and do your due diligence - you'll be fine.

Ended up picking up a used 2013 base with 7500 miles today. I feel a little better knowing it's so low mileage.
