JCW Interior on Cooper S and shift paddles?

Hi All

I ordered my 2014 Cooper S Convertibles with automatic and JCW interior. My question is whether the JCW steering wheel (red stitching) on the Cooper S automatic comes with paddle shifters. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

No, there are no shift paddles on the JCW steering wheel with red stitching. Apparently they are no longer on the MINI Yours or JCW interiors.

That's a real bummer. I know the JCW models with steptronic have the JCW steering wheel AND paddle shifters. And the Cooper S with the regular interior has them too. Why would you get less when you pay more for the JCW interior package?

I was told they didn't have paddle shifters when I was ordering, but I'm picking up my 2014 Roadster S with a JCW interior and exterior on Tuesday, so will ask my MA what's up. The configurator doesn't indicate that there are paddle shifters, and the interior picture doesn't show it either.

My MA and sales manager also told me that their 2014 configurator listing sheet no longer shows the JCW door sills as being part of the JCW interior package, but it was less expensive than the JCW interior package in the 2013 configurator. My configurator shows that door sill are included, so I will be checking that as well.

I just looked and when selecting the automatic, the paddle shifters are included
The ordering of JCW interior does not include options about the transmission
Have my '14 fJCW R55 for 4 weeks now
And I ordered the auto
And I have the paddle shifters
There was a time when MINI had issues with the paddle shifters and it WAS hit and miss
My MA stated when I picked mine up that they have it sorted out now and any auto will get them

Yes, a factory (full) JCW model definitely has paddle shifters, and it shows up in the configurator and picture, but an "S" model with a JCW interior does not. I'll find out more soon and will post any response from my MA.

Hope you're right that any auto will get them, although I rarely use then in my 2010 Convertible S...seem more fun to use the shifter in manual mode to get through the years.

Yes using the floor shifter is sometimes better or smoother for me
My wife's '12 MCS with auto also has the paddles
We're a automatic family I guess!

I have 2 more cars in the online garage and one has the interior option
I'll look at the pics in there tomorrow
I just know that the whole NO paddles issue before had me worried about getting them from the factory on mine
I posted in the other thread about cars coming in without the paddles and some were having them retro fitted

I had told my MA that if my car arrives without them, it would sit there while I just walked away!
Yeah...I was being Amal at the time!

To be honest I never used the paddle shifters on my old car. I only used the stick since you have to move it to the left for the it to not switch back to automatic mode. I also had to reach to click the paddle so it was harder than it needed to be and I don't think I have small hands.

So anyway if you don't have them you're not missing much. They're not like the giant ones on performance cars.

Yes I saw that the full JCW has the shifters, and there is a separate thread on that. That's why it would be really strange if the JCW interior with the same steering wheel doesn't have them.

My MA says my car probably won't have the shifters but if they do, it will be a nice surprise. I'm not sure how much I will end up using them, but its always nice to have the option.

Do let us know if your car ends up having them - I'll eagerly wait for your reply!

Ok, I was wr...wr...wr...mistaken!

I picked up my 2014 Roadster S with JCW interior and exterior today, and lo and behold, the stitched leather JCW steering wheel has paddle shifters! They're actually black (my 2010 Convertible paddle shifters were silver) and blend in very nicely into the wheel.

Also was pleasantly surprised to see that, contrary to my MA/sales manager's 2014 configurator, the JCW door sills are still included in the interior package.

I asked my MA/sales manager, but they didn't know what caused the change, as mine was the first 2014 Roadster S with JCW interior that was delivered to the dealership.

So you should expect paddle shifters in yours. Happy motoring!

It seems that the paddle shifters are directly tied to the interior option.
We ordered the MINI yours which came with its own two tone steering wheel. Due to that we didn't get the paddle snifters on our S. So obviously I would expect an interior option such as the JCW interior to have them.

Congratulations on your new MINI!

Thanks for reporting back. The paddles are black on all 2013 and 2014 model. Also my MA double checked and confirmed on the door sills but didn't known about the paddle shifters. I guess it's a case of MINI not having update the images in their configurator yet. And few people order this option so most dealers don't know.

I'd double check with your MA though because our experience was that the "configurator" was more accurate than what the dealer told us. It can get really confusing at times... don't forget to read the small text * in the options because some conditions can add or remove certain features.

It's great that those wanting the paddles are getting them.
But I'm still wondering about if MINI actually has this issue lined out now!
My wife's '12 MCS with automatic has the paddles.
And her interior isn't a ping option or the JCW type.
If you use the online ordering, the option for automatic states it is with paddles.
I'll not belittle the issue more as we are happy with both our cars and it seems all in this thread are too!

Happy Motoring to All

Perfect!

So to summarize for those who might run into this issue while ordering their cars:

All automatic Cooper/S/fJCW models get the paddle shifters regardless of what your official build sheet or the online configurator pictures show, if you:
- Don't order any special interior package; or
- Order the JCW interior package

If you order the MINI Yours package, you don't get the paddle shifter.

I just purchased a '12 Mini Cooper S with JCW exterior aero package. I was surprised that has no paddle shifters. Being new to the car and this site, I have tried to read as much as possible prior to contacting a nearby Mini dealer.

The phone call today resulted in "we have never heard of such, a Mini without paddle shifters, we will call Mini on Monday and call you back." Well, now we shall wait.

It has been interesting purchasing this car and trying to understand all of the variations that seem to exist. My car doesn't have the interior package, yet it has JCW door sill plates and a red stitched steering wheel. I guess some of the cars I looked at had the JCW interior package and I assumed the sill plates and steering wheel would have been a part of that package.

@gnuse - from reading these forums, I have gathered that the jcw packages were new for 2012 and the early builds left the factory without paddles, something Mini supposedly fixed in due course of time. So it may be worth searching for other threads on this topic.

It is my understanding that all S models with auto come with paddles. In my case I orderd a 2013 non S Clubman with JCW interior package. So I got the red stitching on steering wheel along with the paddles.
