Florida MINI owners... insurance recommendations please

I just relocated to Florida and now shopping for auto insurance for my MINI.

Do any of the FL MINI owners here have any recommendations, advice, good or bad experiences, etc. to pass on in relation to insurance?

I am particularly interested in "mod" friendly companies in respect to reimbursement (if that is feasible/realistic) in case my car is stolen or totaled.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Sunshine State! If you haven't already done so, check out Sunshine MINIs - lots of active clubs throughout the state.

To your question, it's been my experience that car insurance is nothing but bad news here. I've been with GEICO for close to ten years, have a clean record (no moving violations or accidents, no claims of any sort) and have found them to offer the lowest rates - but still higher than I would expect. I've tried Progressive & AllState for quotes, only to find them much, much higher. I've even looked at some smaller, unfamiliar companies like 21st Century, but they're still higher than GEICO. I've expressed my surprise/shock/dismay at the high rates to reps of multiple companies, and all tell me that we get screwed on rates due to the high number of uninsured drivers.

As for mods, I can't help there. My MINI was stock when I added it to my policy, and even though I've made some upgrades, I haven't talked to GEICO about this, so I'm not sure about their reimbursement policy on that front.

I'll be interested to hear the experiences of other Floridians too, and good luck!

I had Allstate for a very long time, then Geico quoted better prices and I went with them for a few years. About 7 years ago I switched to State Farm as they've had the best price out of all of them since. Florida insurance is ridiculous..a lot of it is where you're located though. Miami will cost you more than Gainsville.
