Noob with maintenance questions

Hi all,

Just bought an 2004 MC-S and had a few questions in regards to some maintenance I need to perform:

1) I'm currently at 18,000 miles. Should I get the oil change now (-7,500 miles OVERDUE according the the OBD), or can I wait 2,000 more miles so that I can hit the 20,000 miles for Inspection 1 (which includes the oil change)?

My mileage is low, but I'm thinking that seeing how everything on the car besides the oil & filter is 9 years old, some stuff/fluids need to be replaced soon. Or do you guys even recommend me going with Inspection 2 seeing how it's more comprehensive?

2) So whenever I turn on my A/C (and keep it on for a few minutes), all it does is blow the same temperature of air from the outside. During Inspection I, will they diagnose my A/C problem? All the Mini information booklet says is that they would, "Check A/C operation" during Inspection 1. On this same note, any clue as to what the problem is?

3) Is A/C something that I can take into a specialty shop or should I go check it out to the dealers instead?

4) Same question with the brakes. Is this something that's the same procedure regardless of you not going to the dealer? I have a free voucher for brake pad replacements and I'm just worried that the brake pads that are used with this voucher will not be read by the Mini's brake sensors.

5) Why does the car blow air when the A/C is off? I even turned it on and then turned it off a few seconds later (I read here something about closing the vent), but it was still blowing air through.

Thanks all!

If I'm reading you right the oil hasn't been changed in 18k? Don't wait,

don't pass go get it changed now and then every 5k after that! That's

just plain scary!!

I'd take it to an independent shop and get them to check it out soon. A decent shop will know what to look for and you'll save over taking it to the dealer.

I'm hoping the previous owner did the oil change but did not reset the computer. I would change it anyways at least you know it has been done. There seems to be a problem with some of the coils on the AC systems but I would take it to an AC shop and have it tested. Even though it only has 18k miles I would change all the fluids. LIke you said it is 9yrs old.
