Thanks for all the help, Bram. If you happen to speak to Barry, let him know my public response on NAM.
Glad I could help.

Barry e-mailed me a second time with a little joke - the guy's all right. Now I understand their distribution timetable better, I'm comfortable with subscribing to MC2 for the long haul. It's a well put-together magazine with exceptional content. I would encourage NAM posters to check it out.

Update

For those of you who were subscribing electronically to MC2 via Newstand (iOS), or were just buying them one at a time, as I was... you may have noticed the issues have stopped being posted. I emailed Barry over the holidays and quickly received a great response from him. He explained some of the challenges he's having with electronic publication and is moving the magazine to a different e-publisher. Keep checking the website for information! He also sent me the latest issue in pdf format... another great issue. Outstanding customer service.

I'll skip the long speech I originally typed, and just say that I really enjoy this magazine. I discovered MC2 in 2013 thanks to this thread and a few others. Compared to magazines for my other favorite marque, Land Rover, MC2 hits the nail on the head, particularly for the US crowd. I buy 'Modern MINI,' too, but look forward to MC2 more than MM. If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend checking it out!

MC2 eMag

I too have noticed the situation that no new issues are showing up for the iOS app. While I have a lot of sympathy for small businesses as this is - I also expect a more proactive response from Barry. It seems they could notify customers of the delay and if a PDF issue is available then offer it. (There is nothing on the web site about this situation.) If he moves to a new platform, I wonder what that will mean for the existing app. I like the magazine - but not that much. I actually get more useful - and more current - information here on this forum. I guess I'll have to contact him again.

I've heard that MC2 was hanging on by its finger nails. Having read it I understand how it will most likely go out of business.

It's not the best car mag out there but it is the only American MINI Mag there is.. I've been a mail subscriber since early 07. and been pleased with it as a whole.

I just wanted to let everyone know and too pass the word .. MC2 is not out of business .. basically I purchased a new iPad and starting from scratch and tried to find MC2 Mag app and couldn't find why it wasn't being found in the App Store.. after doing a bit of research I found that it was pulled .. now I'll be honest I was a bit ticked off since I had just purchased a 1 year sub a few months back.

I read some posts and found Barry's Email on the MC2 Website.. I immediately emailed him..

he was very quick to respond to my concerns and emailed me PDFs of 2 of the most current versions of the magazine.

I emailed him back concerned about some previous issues and what he could do about those and issues in the future..

RING... WOW .. Barry called me from Seattle .. I'm in Alberta canada so this impressed me.. he began to explain that there were some problems with the app and that he is paying for a PDF type site which subscribers will be able to get their magazines. he also mentioned the apple would not give him a list of subscribers due to privacy. He is well aware that there is subscribers out there.. so if you want to get what you paid for. email or call Barry .. he is very happy to make things right. I only say these things because of my positive experience with him.. I've read some really nasty comments regarding this situation ,, and am here to tell you they are just lies.. and hopefully the people sending such lies will stop...

Anyhow.. this was my experience .. I don't know Barry personally but he seems like a very nice person and he wants to fix things that were out of his control.

Seems to me MC2 is swirling around the drain waiting to go down. Glad you got a couple of pdf files.

MC2 PDF Issues

I called Barry and he explained what is happening. The iOS application is no longer functional. Apple will not give him a list of subscribers saying they are not _his_ subscribers, but theirs! (This is not the first time I have heard about Apple being difficult with app support.) He says there are a couple of hundred subscribers out there that he can't contact.

Anyway, Barry is happy to provide PDF versions of the missing issues (#46 and #47 for me). The key is to contact him directly at publisher@mc2magazine.com or better, call him directly at 360/ 698-7926. He is planning to convert to a new system in which PDF copies are going to be available. If you supply your email and phone number he can let you know when the new issues are available. Spread the word if you know of anyone missing electronic issues.

Small publishers have a difficult time these days and I hope he is able to make this work. He is still plugging away - and MC2 is not dead.

Looks as if MC2 Magazine is out of business. Haven't received Issue #48 yet, and emails to the publisher are being returned as "Mail delivery failed".

MC2 PDF Issues

Have you tried calling him? That's what I did to get my two missing issues. He told me that he would contact subscribers when the next issue was ready - but I haven't heard anything either.

Barry is one guy trying to publish a niche magazine by himself. I think the only job that's harder is trying to run a profitable restaurant. I subscribed for a while but the magazine wasn't for me, still, I wish him well. It is really hard to make it as a small business. So if you like the magazine be patient and stop with the death rumors. At least if he goes under you won't be out a lot of $.

I received an email from MC² (Barry) today that went out to subscribers, of which I am for the next 18 months or so. They are no where near GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. I personally have spoken with Barry countless times on the phone and also he will be at MotD.

Letter to subscribers:

April 25, 2014

Dear subscribers...

I have to apologize for MC2 issue #48. The first delay in March was due to editorial planning that simply went sideways. We had in place solid editorial about Guerlain Chicherit's long jump that the writer simply didn't come with creating a 6-page hole. Then came a long-term story that was to introduce an adventure in the making that never came to be. We had a 10-12 page hole in the issue 2 weeks before scheduled print- and had no backup editorial!
It was fixed, but I then made a terrible mess of the mailing data, and we've spent a LOT of time rebuilding it while trying to get issue #49 into the system. Overall, it has caused a lot of trouble!
I have spoken to a dozen or two of you over the phone this April, and a few dozen of you have used Facebook and other means to reach out to us about your missing #48. The data will be ready Monday, the day berore I leave for the Dragon. The re-assembled issue #48 will then be put into the mailing system by Friday to everyone be they USA, Canada or globally.
MC2 will produce, print, and mail six issues this year. Your next issue, #49, is in production as I write this, and it is scheduled for mailing late May. It takes about 10-15 days for the USPS mail to reach you after we drop the magazine into their hands.
Our celebration issue #50 is destined to print early July, so look for it mid-July time. We're amassing more pages than usual if all goes well
My personal apologies, Barry
Now for some good news..
The good news is that amidst my mistakes made the last two months, new relationships have come to be, Project Alter-Ego is nearing its last mod's, and we're finally ready to debut two new additions to MC2 in the form of a classified cars & parts site - set to debut maybe June -with a UK reciprocal partner site, and our own PDF-based digital magazine system. Our first foray into the digital magazine sector went badly with iTunes as the app developers were just not able to fix the several problems in their 2nd generation app. Then we had to find all the subscribers . If you are such a customer, then contact me direct at publisher@mc2magazine.com, as you likely have digital issues owed to you. The digital MC2 site will be ready early May with subscriptions and back issues available.
Finally, after a few years of waiting, we have this week been allowed to inform you all of The Magazine Channel, as MC2 is a founding publisher of this truly amazing development. If you're an iPad owner, then please download from The App Store your own Magazine Channel (Stacks) app. This will allow you to read MC2 editorial free-of-charge on your iPad from the last 3 years- with more to come. Just "discover" and "follow" and read content from several-dozen other magazines also for free. One day soon it will be advertiser-supported with ads between content just like a standard magazine. The Android system for Stacks will be available late Fall. More news soon.
As we all know, life in the printed magazine business is likely tougher than almost any business as magazines are not a staple of life. Yet, somehow, MC2 keeps forging forward. I have to thank you for your support the last two months as everyone I've spoken with and e-mailed with have expressed your support for our little MINI magazine. THANK YOU
I'll be at the Dragon all next week, as our Project Alter-Ego, a 2002 S buildup is sharing the tent with the guys at M7Tuning (now M7 Speed). We're working with The MINI Skirts.org charity to raise more money than 2013 by giving away a Quicksilver exhaust system for a R56 MINI.
If you ever need me, just drop me a line at publisher@mc2magazine.com Call me at 360/ 698-7926, or e-mail me and ask that I call you about your sub or other magazine need. I have worked at home for 37 years in the magazine business, so I sometimes answer needs evening and weekends.
Thank you for caring about MC2 magazine,
Barry Brazier
