Getting 12v power to the windshield
Getting 12v power to the windshield
I've been looking for an acceptable solution to mounting my phone in a 2012 Coupe and want something a bit more elegant than a cup-holder bracket with a wire running from the cigarette adapter.
Has anyone found a way of running power to a mount on the windshield? Maybe from the light/toggle switch console above the rearview?

Yea, I'd pull down that console and tap into power from up there.
Do you have a sunroof?
I found it was EASY to snake my phone's 30 pin cable up into the dash next to my speedo.. Wire is just neatly tucked and comes up from the gap near the wiper switch.

No sunroof, sadly. I'll look into the console though. Wasn't sure if that was easy to remove or not.
No need to remove anything, wires all tuck behind trim. Up under dash, out of steering column. I ran my Scangauge on the opposite side. All you see are the short wires out of the column.
The console I'm referring to is directly above the rearview mirror and contains a couple of lamps and some toggle switches for controlling them.

There's a nice thread and how-to on the forum for wiring a Valentine One or other radar detector. It should be just what you need. I did mine in 30 minutes tops, it was very easy and completely tidy.
Should be an easy find with a search, I don't have the link handy but referenced it in a post I made a couple months ago.

Steering column? I think we might be talking about different things here. I'm looking to suction a phone bracket right under the rearview mirror directly to the windshield.
