Time for service, or is it?

My dash shows that I'll be ready for an oil change/service @ 07/2013 or 2,000 miles. So it's July and the light hasn't come on. Do I need to wait for July to be over before the light comes on or will I need to wait for another 2,000 miles?

My dealer says if the lights not on or it hasn't been 366 days since my last oil change, it's not free. I wanted to get a few things taken care of after the service but if I need to wait another month I'll need to rethink things.

Thanks

the date is a bigger guess by the computer than the miles. Dealers wait for the miles to be 0 - there is some variation within dealers as to how close to zero you need to be. Some will let you be within a couple of hundred miles and some will say you must be below zero. There's no pat answer.

You are 'entitled' at one year or when the counter says zero . . . funny thing is I've seen dealers in this situation do a change at 366 days with 1000 on the clock. Then do it again when the clock hits zero (they do not reset the miles count on a 1 year change). That's the way the system works .... did not say it makes sense

I'm facing the same issue but have been told to just bring in the car and they'd take care of everything. I took delivery on 08-01-2012 but have fewer than 7,000 miles. I'll make an appointment when it's conveinent for me, probably before 08-01-13 but have been assured it won't matter.

Mine displayed 06/2013 or 7000 miles throughout June. The first time I started the car in July, it said "Service" at start-up. I took it in to the dealer and they did the oil service for free. I purchased the car new in October 2012 and it had 4600 miles when "Service" appeared in the display in July.

This answered my question, thank you!
