Bike Rack Ideas

Have an 04 MC and looking for any suggestions for a bike rack and or hitch. Don't have a roof rack or hitch but would be willing to install a hitch. Have looked around for bike racks and heard the horror stories of some damaging the car.

Open to any suggestions, Thanks!

What's stopping you from getting a hitch and bike rack to go in the hitch?

I did it and it works great.

Just an idea from another point of view. Build your own.
I don't have a Mini yet...so a plan to fabricate something like this may not work. The typical cargo tray mounts on a receiver, mine has similar box brackets mounted to the frame on the tie down mounts on each side. The tray has two mounting bars that go forward into the boxes. The tray has fork mounts on each end with a mesh floor. Photos to be posted.

That's what I want to do but not sure what brand(s) to go with. What did you use?

I used a MINI Do More hitch and a Kuat Sherpa rack on my 05 S. It's not the easiest to get on and off, but it works well.

For my R55 I used a Curt. Not sure what brands are available for your 1st gen. MINI Do More as well as a few other similar products.

As for the rack I went with a cheapie. Allen Sports from wal-mart online. It was $12 cheaper online and shipped to my house than finding a local store that had it and it was 1/2 to 1/4 the price of a Thule or Yakima. If I had a nice bike >$1k value, I would look at a more valuable bike but my 9 year old Trek was $400 then, if the rack fails then I get a new bike
