Xylon coating and Extended Maintenance - NEED SOME QUICK HELP
So I go to pick up my new R55 tomorrow and they're offering me two things:
1) Xylon coating for $479. This would cover interior, exterior and underneath the car. Protects against stains, brake dust, burns etc. Would be for five years and unlimited miles. Anyone have experience with this? Is it worth it?
2) Extended Maintenance. This would cover front and back brakes and rotors up to 100,000 miles for as often as I need them (I needed them at about 42,000 on my last Clubman and that was about $1100-$1200), oil changes every 10,000 up to 100,000 miles, ventilation filter change at every oil change if I want it, break fluid change every 2 years, wiper blades every 12,000 miles, automatic transmission fluid which apparently has to be changed at 75,000 miles and is $450, spark plugs which apparently have to be changed at 60,000 miles and are $250, belts which cost $295... Anyway, this sounds a good value were I to keep the car. I don't know if it's transferrable and if say I move it will work at another dealership (waiting to hear back, but I assume "yes" to both).
ANYWAY, thought I'd see if anyone has any experience with either and if they think they're worth it. The Extended Maintenance seems worth it to me based on the 4 years and 42,000 I had on my last clubman.

I recommend using the search function, there are lots of threads on this topic.
That said - My opinion is that the Xylon is a waste of money and the extended maintenance isn't worth it. One could make an argument for the extended maintenance at least, depending on how much they want for it but it would have to be a very low price for me to consider it.

I sold cars for 10 years and those protection packages aren't worth it. I think I would pass on the maintenance as well. Those prices sound high to me. What I had the dealer do is install the clear bra on mine. I had it installed before I took delivery. Good Luck
Thanks for the replies and keep them coming. Xylon is no. The extended maintenance would be either $1800 or $1900. It extend the maintenance until 100,000 miles. That sounds good to me as I figure I'd have at least two bream changes. Still, all that being said I welcome your thoughts now that I've given you how much it'd cost.
Im kinda on the fence about the maintenance deal.. there are a few good things in it..but im not sure on the price.. that's more up to you..lol Whats funny is the automatic trans change 75,000.. to me it should be changed much sooner...that is if you want the life of your tranny to be decent.. It seems they know just how to exceed more then what really it should be changed at..IMO.. cheers and good luck!!
Both are not a good value.
I spent my extra money on Geico extended breakdown insurance. It's much cheaper and useful than the Mini plans.
Think, two brake jobs, a few oil changes... For me.. It's not worth it.

Meh, forget it. Just looked it up and while it's 100,000 miles, it's 6 years/100.000 miles. I'll likely only put on 65,000 miles in 6 years.

Remember, the finance department is the hidden sales department. Once you feel you've struck your deal and your guard is down, you get sent to a whole new sales guy. The fabric protection is not worth your money. In fact, I refused to pay on my last car and they added it for free. I honestly think if they apply anything to the fabric, it's done before the car is even sold.
As for the extended maintenance plan, I regret purchasing mine for my GP2. I recently read through the list of exclusions, and it is really long. For example, the entire engine and transmission are completely excluded. What?
Yeah, it basically covers brake pads and a few oil changes. Had I known this when I agreed to it, I wouldn't have purchased it. I thought I was buying an "extended maintenance plan" when I was really buying a "brake and oil change plan" with a bunch of "outs" if it is ever determined the car was mistreated or neglected in any way. I got taken.

Remember...
Extented MX sounds good if you compare it it DEALER cost....but not 3rd party...and it is the minimum required MX....no extra oil changes etc that most folks do...
If you have a decent independent shop...bet they beat the prepaid deal....

Sometimes a small $$...
Remember the dealer is getting a commission on this stuff....
And from the discounts....you can see the huge profits they are making....

Sounds like you're getting the hang of it. Just understand that whatever they are trying to sell you is marked up. And the more someone tells you you must have it, the more you should ask why it isn't included. If it's optional, why is it optional? Because you don't need it. Have fun.
I don't know your personality but if I were in your shoes today, I would've already told them I'm looking elsewhere. That should get them to give their best offer.

So what I learned yesterday was they are even able to reduce the price of the Extended Maintenance, which is something I didn't expect. I never went through this with my last Clubman because I think it was such a quick deal at the end of the day. Anyway, thanks for all the timely replies everyone.
Sadly I couldn't tell them I'm looking elsewhere as I ordered the car the way I wanted and I was just picking it up and finishing the paperwork yesterday. I'm comfortable negotiating though and doing it in a way where I get a good deal without asking for 90% off like my Mother would.
If she's not there I'll be doing it for my Dad when he gets a Countryman (I've now finally got him hooked).

i opted to go for the extended maintenance...
with my commute, im going to hit 100,000 miles within 3 years, well before im done paying it off. i figure in that time im likely to go through a dozen oil changes, a few sets of breaks, and at least one clutch.
