Chrome Hood Scoop

When I bought my MINI r57 new, I had a chrome hood scoop installed from the factory. I have now been thru 3 of them as the Texas heat keeps "lifting" the chrome. Anyone have a solution for this? I love the look of the hood scoop but I am getting tired of the chrome lifting. Thanks

I'm thinking that the lifting is mostly from below (engine heat) and not from above (TX sun). Is there a reason why you think the sun is causing this? I would try out a heat shield for the scoop, http://www.waymotorworks.com/mini-co...5-r56-r57.html
but if you have issues with the hood paint, the dealer may try to blame the heat shield.

I went through 5 on my clubbie. They kept replacing every oil change so I never put a heat shield on. I think a turbo heat shield is the only option.

We've found the Hood heatshield and turbo shield combo to help.

On my R56, the turbo is starting to cause the scoop to melt down in the middle even though I have a turbo heat shield. Not sure if it's worth replacing or just get a CF scoop that won't melt.

Sucks that it has to be this way but the chrome will be more susceptible to melting or coming apart as it is a coating over the plastic unit. The plastic ones have been known to dip or warp and the coating is even worse. Luckily any part replaced by the dealer is covered by a 2yr unlimited mile warranty so you can keep getting a new one if it happens in less than 2 years but you shouldn't have to.

Thanks Guys!

Thank you for the suggestions. My husband says he will order the turbo shield and heat shield combo to see if it works. Cross your fingers!

though i dont know if its fact, but i read somewhere that the hood scoops on the 2011+ mcs were modified so that they wouldnt have this problem, or maybe its also the n18 not running as hot. /shrug but maybe someone else can chime in on this and if its true, maybe you can try acquiring one from a n18. it doesnt get as hot in southern california compared to texas, but my elly has been through two summers where its around the 100f range and the scoop isnt deformed in anyway. and i have also seen older r56s in the area with deformed scoops.

edit: i had a mindfart and just reread and youre talking about the chrome one. if you ever decide to go with a regular though! lol
