Phantom Windows

OK, this has happened several times now. We always cover our Mini at night and several times now when I take the car cover off our Mini the widows are down. I know they were up when the Mini was covered, so how are they getting rolled down on a covered car sitting there all alone?

Were the doors locked?
Are they unlocked when the windows are down?
If so I would say someone or something is holding down the unlock button on your key.

It sounds like the actuator ( if that's what its called ) that activates the windows from the door lock (using the key manually in the door) is faulty. It is probably thinking the key is in the door lock and is being held to unlock. I bet the doors are unlocked as well when this occurs. I would take it in since this could happen in a rain storm etc.

Always locked when covered but don't know about the unlocked status because I've always unlocked it when uncovering.
I'll wait next time before I unlock it to see if it is already unlocked.
I know that we are not intentionaly holding the key fob down on unlock and it looks like it would be difficult (but not imposible) to depress that long in my pocket or wifes purse.

I was talking about the other way to lower the windows with using the actual key blade in the door. There is a switch in there that activates the windows with either holding the key in the unlock (to lower) or lock (to raise). If it malfunctions it can think the key is in one of these positions and then activate the windows. Generally in the down position. I think a friend just had this fixed on an X5 when it decided to lower all the windows at night in a rain storm.

We'll have to keep a eye on it to tell whether the doors are being unlocked when the windows come down on their own.
Our car cover is "water Proof" but still it's not a good thing for your car to be setting out with the doors unlocked and windows down.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening before?

I cant say ive heard of it happening on a Mini but I haven't been around this forum long. On the BMW forums tho ive read of it a few times. Now that I think of it its maybe not a switch but more of a module that deals with the windows.

This happens to our MINI in the garage when I have the key in my pocket and sit on the couch in a manner that presses (and holds) the unlock button on the remote.
