Thoughts on colored mirror caps

What are your thoughts on colored mirror caps like the ones below? Silly? Sporty? Cool? I am trying to decide whether to pull the trigger on some Orange ones on my BRG Clubman. Anyone have this setup that can share some pictures?

I had Chad at Detroit Tuned custom paint my mirror caps on my ps/b green. I love it, it's completely different than anyone around. Having Chad paint my spare caps a matte army green. I'll post a pic later today of my mini.

I'm all for it. I don't know if I would personally do it, but as long as the colors look good together go for it. I have the black union jack ones at the moment and I like having something different on the mirror.

Go for it! It took me a long time to convince myself to get orange caps - Like you I was afraid they might look goofy and they're not cheap, but now that I have them I love them.

If you're unsure how the orange will look, you might try orange plastidip first. I haven't seen orange caps with BRG yet. Post pics!

Yeah, if the caps were a bit cheaper, I'd get them just to try them out. Plastidip is a good idea. I havent used plastidip before. Is it really easy to remove, even from plastic parts like the mirror caps? Any discoloration from the application?

I think they look good , you can match them with the side scuttles.

Here is a Rally Edition Clubman with the green mirror caps and green side scuttle inserts.

#1 in diagram , There is Pink , Yellow, Green, Orange, and Blue. Power-fold and non power-fold. Just make sure you get the right version.

If you need more colors of the "Ray Line" or "Rally Series" Series let me know.

&

For the side scuttles. There are Pink , Yellow, Green, Orange, and Blue. #5 in diagram. You will also need the Scuttle holder set.

To pull it off properly, I believe they need to be a color that compliments your body paint color and then you have to tie it in elsewhere on the MINI.... brake calipers, pinstripes on the bonnet stripes, side scuttles... at least one or two other places. Otherwise, I think they just look arbitrary.

VERY easy to apply and remove. No priming or prep needed. I hear that it's easier to peel off if you do a heavier application (many light coats) and if it's not too old (i.e. re-do it every year or so). I haven't seen any posts about discoloration issues but if you have white caps and are worried they might tint orange, you could use a base coat of white plastidip to protect them a bit.

Here's another NAMer who pd'd their caps orange:

+1 to this. On their own they look too "floaty" to me, too.

Like CR&PW&JB said, I think there should be another piece of your car that's the same color to tie it together.

When you do it, I have two words: PLASTI-DIP. Get myriad colors (inc. blaze orange or bright green) here.

The beauty of PD for those unfamiliar is that it's 1) inexpensive and 2) can be peeled off if/whenever you want.

That thread among others on NAM are what planted the seed to think about colored mirrors.....plastidip it is! It might take me a while, but I'll post picts to see what everyone thinks.

I had my Mirror caps custom painted (don't think you can really tell in profile signature, but they are a lite pale pink with a metallic clear coat) and I LOVE THEM ! It totally changed the whole look of my car. GO for it I don't think you will be unhappy =)

I would suggest tying the caps to the rest of the car, possibly with a graphic like Curbiecooper has, or a stripe of the same color as the mirror. It will help the car to look more like an integrated whole.

OK guys/gals, what do you think? Plastidipped in white then painted with orange since I couldnt find orange plastidip locally. It definitely pops and makes the car have a different feel than the black mirrors. I'm so on the fence with this one!

Looks like you did a nice job.

That orange is just a little too "pastel" to match well to such a rich and classic color like BRG, in my opinion.

If you want your MINI to be unique though, you've succeeded.

I feel like it needs a little more to tie it together. Maybe something like a simple side stripe like this?

Home depot has orange electrical tape - could that be used to test it out on the cheap? (Is vinyl electrical tape the same as vinyl striping tape?)

Get some more orange in there... go BOLD!!

I hit these with Rustoleum Orange, they were a spare white pair of side mirrors. Then ordered orange graphics off the internet, and orange pinstripes. Total cost of the project was $185 and we're VERY happy with being unique!

Good suggestion. The more I look at the current setup, the more I am thinking the car needs to look a bit more sporty to pull off orange....maybe some racing stripes on thebonnet would also work? Right now the look of the car is stuck between Attention Getting Sporty and Classy Sporty

I have a BRG Coupe and have been seriously considering metallic copper as a color that would go well with BRG and still have a bit of pop...

Visually, I think they work great when color coordinated with other elements on the vehicle. JoanieB and Kirby11's are good examples. I don't think the colored mirror caps work as stand alone accessories. The color does need to be repeated somewhere else.
