Cancelling Extended Maintenance Program?
Cancelling Extended Maintenance Program?
The car: 2013 Clubman S
Mileage: 4,500
I did the first oil change at 1300 miles and plan to do every other at around 5k. Dealer maintenance plan pays for every 10k.
I really vascilated on which was more valuable or necessary- Extended Maintenance or extended Warranty.
At the time we bought the car I was not planning to do repairs like brakes and harder items. I have since changed my tune and I know I can handle the brakes and similar maintenance. I just did the brakes and rotors, plugs, all fluids, air filter on a Subaru. Peice of cake.
The value I saw in the maintenance program was the brakes and clutch. And that the dealer would see the car periodically and do all updates and address the known issues like recalls and repair buletins.
Now I am not sure the value is there for me or anyone able to do some of their own maintenance. I'm willing and able to do routine stuff. I'm not sure I would tackle a clutch unless someone (or this forum) showed me that it really is doable with my rookie skillset.
My dealer is an hour away so the other advantage to doing my own maintenance is not killing day going to the dealer.
I read my maintenance agreement and it does say refunds only if vehicle is totalled in the first 36 mo/ 36,000 miles.
Does anyone know if there is an exeption to be made to this? Or am I stuck with the maintenance program.

I put up this post a while back, comparing the cost of DIY with the cost of the extended maintenance plan:

They were offering to sell me an maintenance extension for $1895; my calculations were that it'd be $1691 if I did it myself. That was closer than I thought, actually.
Just another data point. I do most of my own maintenance work.
