2006 mini s

Considering a 2006 MINI S with 90,000 miles. I haven't seen it yet, but the dealer is going to bring it in for me to take a look at. It would not be a daily driver, just a third vehicle to have some fun in. Any '06 S owners out there with any thoughts from your experience with this model year?

The 06 is the best year of the R53 models. While 90K miles isn't too bad make sure you get it looked over real good. Find a local independent mini shop and have them check it out.

Any other info on the car? Packages/options it has?

+1 on the above!!
It would be a shame to buy a new "used" car, only to find it had $4000 in MX due...
A MINI/BMW pre-buy or MINI-centic independent garage is ideal here....it will gove you real leverage in negatioing the price!
Some things can easily be DIY'ed on a MINI if you are into that, but some things cam be a pain, and be $$$...more so than one might expect...like a $2000 clutch...or $spending 500-1000$ to replace worn bushings in the front end. They may all be OK or they may have already been done....a mechanic that KNOWS MINI's can tell!!
Also SO many MINI's have been driven HARD, a second set of eyes to look at the car might help you find out if it was cared for, or wailed on for hours by a kid....
I love my MINI, but I have heard a fair number of stories of folks getting burned on cars that are COSMETICALLY PERFECT, but mechanically NIGHTMARES!!
My 05 S has been a GREAT, reliable daily driver...fun and even efferent!! That is even though it is lightly modded to make 200+ hp

If it passes an independent inspection, go for it. I got my '06 MCS about a year ago with 96.5k on the odometer and I should now be ticking over to 129k in the next few days. In that time, I've only had a couple unexpected, but inexpensive repairs and I had to replace a few wear items (DC area streets are bad). Like ZippyNH said earlier, Minis can be problem free or a nightmare in terms of maintenance and the best way to weed out the problem cars is to make sure they're mechanically sound before making a decision. I lucked out when I bought mine without an inspection, but after hearing stories from other owners who were not so fortunate, I wouldn't buy another without getting it checked out first.

we got our 2006 a few years ago and love the whine of the supercharger and the gocart handling.

like everyone else said get an independant inspection first (and if the dealer wont allow it run away) and then see if you can get them to add an extended warranty to it if you can (included in what you choose to pay of course). we did that with ours and the few things that have come up were covered and repaired at no cost to us by the MINI dealer even though we got the car elsewhere.
