Pulled up to my driveway just now and had to pause for the garage door to finish opening. Forgot to put it into 1st (was in 3rd coming down my street), and tried to engage from a full stop into 3rd gear. Switched into 1st and pulled into the garage. Switched off and got out of the car. I was greeted by a nice burnt metallic smell. That can't have been good.

 

I've done that before. I can't imagine you did any damage to the clutch.

 

Your car should be alright. I've done that a few times with no mishap.
