Odd, perhaps, but it does work. While a lighter color or reflective tint might work slightly better (and not look as good, IMHO), the dark tint blocks the light from entering the car and heating up everything inside it. The windows, themselves, get warmer but the interior surfaces definitely do not. And...black is a very good color for radiating heat, so, the warmed up windows radiate heat back to the relatively cooler outside air. I thought long and hard about getting a car with a black roof here in FL but with the tint and windshield sunshade I don't notice it getting any hotter than my white pickup (likewise with tint and windshield sunshade.)

I agree about the sunroof, tho........I like mine.
