Euro fliptop center arm rest question

I searched but couldnt find the answer. For those with the flip top euro version of the center armrest for the Clubman or Hardtop, is the flip top spring loaded? Does the lid pop up and stay up when you unlatch it? I just got mine and it is not spring loaded. If this is normal, then it is a pain that the lid doesnt stay up by itself.

Yep, my previous car and my current car are like that. As I only ever slide the lid and not open it right up, I care not!

You're correct, OP - the euro one isn't spring loaded.

On this (factory-fitted) one, the top slides back and then can be hinged up if required. There is no spring-loading on any of it.

Yup....the top one just stays open while you add or remove things.....not really sure why you might want it to be spring loaded...might pop open on a bump if not latched....sounds a little bit like buyers remorse.

I have the top one and the top will stay open when you open it. You do not have to hold it open. The only thing I don't like about it is that it gets in the way of the the skids handle.

I was talking about the top one. Mine does not stay open. How old is yours Porthos? Maybe I have a newer version that does not stay open?? The reason I want it to either be spring loaded or stay open is because it is easier to dig around with one hand if the lid stays open. I wonder what the mechanism is for yours Porthos....

My thoughts exactly, but like most items, it is a mixed bag....overall, better to have it IMO than not!

good to know that mine is not defective. I'd still like it to stay open though. Im going to try to modify it by wrapping the hinge. If it works I'll report back!
