overheating

Hey guys n girls! My r50 mini cooper is having an overheating problem! I replace the temp sensor and the fan relay already and that did not help. I drive the car and then let it set for about 20 minutes and the gauge will just go up and up till it hits red and flashes! Any resolutions or same problems and fixes would be appreciated! Thanks!!!!

Not yet! The thing i dont get is i had it to 2 mechanics already as well as going over it myself any nothing works. I know the fan works because i hot wired it up to see if it would run which it does. Its so strange.

Check your oil and coolant. If the oil looks like a milkshake you might have blown the head gasket.

So the fan is hotwired on....is the radiator getting hot?
Is the coolant level ok, no bubbles? If it ran low, and you added coolant, often you can get a bubble, leading to overheating. Ensure it is 100% full, and bleed it.
Next, have you inspected the waterpump for leaks...they can wearout...the vanes are plastic on some...can be an issue....and a pump worn like this, i would kinda expect the seals to be weeping also.
Is this a new issue since the thermost replacent? Maybe it was installed upsidedown? Or the before mentioned bubble from the change. And ofcourse the possible headgasket failure...can be from heat, age or corrosion...has the system been drained and refilled? Mini recommends it be done every 3 years or so...the most overlooked mantance item on a mini.

Older MINI, water pump and thermostat could be in need of replacement. Loss of coolant? Whatever you do don't drive it anymore, get it to the shop!
