Extended Warranties

I purchased an 2010 Mini Hatchback the other day with 46,000 miles on it.

I was offered an extended warranty through some place I never heard of from the Chrysler dealer I purchased the car from (it's not a certified pre-owned Mini) and I turned it down.

I am taking it to Mini of Charleston on the 26th (trek and half for me to get there) because now the low beam warning indicator is on, yet all lights are working properly.

I have 4k to go on the warranty.

Questions:

Is it worth getting an extended warranty on the car?

Am I able to purchase a Mini extended warranty since the car wasn't Mini Certified?

What happens if I break down near home and the car is not driveable the 3 hours to Charleston? BMW told me they can't do warranty service. Am I responsible for getting it there or does Mini's warranty cover that?

Should I get an extended warranty through an independent company, and if I do, will regular service places be able to order Mini parts?

Or do I just take my chances.

GULP!

Absolutely. Get one for sure. It will pay for itself unfortunately.

If it is under the MINI warranty they will get it there. BMW does not serivce MINI's.
I had this one with http://www.continentalwarranty.org/ it paid for itself twice.

just make sure you maintain it and change the oil at 5k not 10-15k like the dealer will tell you. Also have the timing chain check and get a carbon clean out done.

YES! If you can (if it's within your budget), go for the extended warranty!

if you're interested in indy ext warranty, just give your local MINI dealer a call and ask what indy warranty they prefer to work with.

I didn't realize MINI honored other warranties. I will definitely call! Thanks!
