If you have halogens you need a conversion kit. Not sure if these will be satisfactory on a MINI but I used them for my Z3 and couldn't be happier.

Most companies sell Chinese garbage that dies within months. Buy a quality kit from the start and you will not have to worry about replacing parts in the near future. Trust me on this. I've done many HID retrofits over the last 5 years and I had to learn the hard way.
I started with ebay kits under the brand "Xentec". They appeared nice but I think I replaced one or both of the ballasts 7 times in two years and the bulbs a few times. TRS uses OEM-quality parts and is abso-frickin-lutely worth the extra cost.
You also don't seem to know much about what you might need. No offense intended. Call Matt over at TRS, he will be more than happy to talk to you and figure out exactly what you need.
Just do it, I promise you'll regret buying the cheap brands.

I don't have any pics, but the install was very straightforward. Just plug the ballast into the factory harness, then plug the HID light into the ballast, then install the bulb in the headlamp housing. With MINI's you'll probably get light out warnings and may need cancellers, so perhaps you should do as suggested above and give that shop that calforhelp recommended a call.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I know they look cheesy on anything but a factory Audi, and that blinding blue headlights are an affront to humanity.
Second, blue tint robs the bulb of light output. Blue light does not let you see better. It's strictly a fashion thing. Use clear bulbs for the best performance and light output.
Here's what you need assuming you have a 2007 or newer MINI with halogen headlights.

They even come with a special wiring harness that I've never seen before that you will need to keep any sort of high beam functionality. Because our cars only use one bulb for the low and high, every cheap HID kit will eliminate your high beams. Meaning if you flip your switch to high, your lights will turn off. This could be a HUGELY dangerous situation since a lot of the cheaper kits also don't like to be turned off then right back on and might not re-ignite right away.
So you're driving down the dark, country freeway at 1am, reach to turn on your turn signal accidentally flip on your high beams and your headlights turn off completely. You quickly turn your lows back on but they don't ignite because they just turned off. You can't see the an oncoming curve because your lights won't come back on, you cut across the median and slam head-first into an oncoming 18-wheeler. All because you wanted to save a little money and buy a cheap-o HID kit.
The wiring harness adds a little to the install process but protects your car's factory wiring from the intense initial voltage draw of the HID ballasts and retains your high beams. They come with instructions and are very easy to install.
For real, do it right the first time. I don't think I can possibly stress that any more. DO IT!
As for LED strips, go with these:
-THESE are being discontinued so you can get a great deal on them. They are really bright, a 6" strip should be able to light up your footwell pretty well. They are running out of color since they've been on clearance for a while. They are very, very reliable.
-THESE are what they are being replaced with. I haven't used them but they should be about 3x brighter than the first link and just as reliable as them.
V-leds has amazing customer service. If you ever do have a problem with the strips, just send them an email and they'll take care of you whether in warranty or not.
But really, buy the nicer HID kit even if that means saving up for a few months for them.

Oh yeah, the newer MINIs will give you bulb out warnings and may even make your HIDs flicker on and off regardless of your headlight switch position if you go with the cheaper kits.
Forget any and all advice you've received about these. Just call Matt over at TRS (404) 220-7940. Tell him you need a HID plug-and-play kit for your 20XX MINI Cooper with halogen headlights.
You will need to remind him that you need a H13 Canbuss harness for MINI. It's a custom thing they make up and don't stock. He will probably not know what you're talking about. He can reference order #18817 to hopefully refresh his memory.
You WILL NEED this harness on any MINI 2011 or newer. On a 2007-2010 you might not but probably will need something. And I can't speak for the 2001-2006 models.
