Here is the instruction from the side of the box. Says "until cool". I assume that means cold. Lol

I was actually wondering what the reading would be on an original dipstick. I'm still trying to track down the Cravenspeed dipstick. Its good to know that the Cravenspeed dipstick can be read cold.

Not sure. Why would you remove the craven speed before service? Would they swipe it from ya?

I thought I was hearing a timing chain noise. I didn't want anyone saying your warranty is void because you're not using an original dipstick so you underfilled the oil.

Perhaps I was a little paranoid, but that was my thinking.

i did plastidip the handle and it is much easier to touch not when hot, though as most have pointed out, not much reason to do so.

however, has anyone found the dipstick to be a little "loose" as far as how it sticks into the hole? It's not going to fall out obviously, but it does seem to have a bit of wiggle room

I have one in my Countryman and it is a perfect fit. I've never heard of one being a loose fit, but I did however read a thread where someone was complaining that it was too tight, presumably because of the thickness of the powder coat on the handle.

I think some of the dipsticks were shipped with the wrong o-rings which affected the fit. Call Cravenspeed or go to your local Ace.

The o-ring provides the seal between the firs rock and the tube. If it's too small, the stick will be loose in the tube.

I can't tell if you got a dipstick with a mis-sized oring, but I bet the dipstick is ok. Call Cravenspeed and ask. They are well known for their great customer service. They'll send you a new oring.

We would be happy to send you a new o-ring. The problem referred to below was a isolated incident with a group buy, but we have found there is some variation in the stems. Because of that, we do stock some thicker rings that can give you a tighter seal. Just give us a call or send me an email and we'll get it sorted out.

Gotcha. The dipstick is a little loose, so I would appreciate that. Will send you a PM.

Like I said, their customer service is great! However,it doesn't extend to finding the dipstick I misplaced the basement. :-(

Have you checked under the box of clothes to the left of the furnace?

It can't be there. To the left of the furnace is the chimney. .

I looked again in the garage today. While I discovered many old Miata parts that I had forgotten, no dipstick. :(

This calls for a serious garage cleaning.

Oh, garage cleaning is out of my area of expertise.

Apparently, so is clairvoyant lost and found.

Don't worry. I know exactly where my clairvoyant is. I usually know in advance when I need a clairvoyant lost and found.
